The APS/AAPT/AAS Workshop for New Physics and Astronomy Faculty provides resources for new faculty to learn about their roles in the professoriate. Since 1996, Dr. Leslie-Pelecky has been a speaker at this conference, sponsored by the American Association of Physics Teachers, the American Physical Society and the American Astronomy Society. Her talk focuses on how new faculty can be involved in working with outreach to the public, K-12 schools and other public audiences and still get tenure.
Through working on New Faculty Alumni Reunion Workshops. she realized that there was a lack of information on some of the basics -- and for good reason. There aren't always simply answers about how to balance your job and your personal life or your teaching and your research.
